When Planning Meetings, Always Include a Team Building Experience
When you bring people together for a meeting, always include a team building experience as part of the agenda. Guests want to get out into the city where the meeting is being held, or participate in creating something for those in need in the community. There are so many possibilities and they are easy to find, if you know where to look.
Start by asking your hotel sales manager and conference services director for ideas that other customers have done. Reach out to the local convention and visitors bureau to find out what is needed in the community. Ask others what they have done in the past that gave them a sense of pride and accomplishment by giving back.
Sometimes, the greatest conversations and opportunities to learn from each other does not happen only from sitting in a meeting room listening to a speaker. Bonds are built and relationships grow when teams come together to collectively do something good for the community where the meeting is taking place.
There are two options when it comes to creating a team building experience for your guests; an organization comes to the hotel and in a meeting room, something is created or put together such a building bikes or stuffing back packs. Or, you can take your guests offsite to do an activity in the city with a mission that aligns with your organizations culture.
The possibilities are endless so gather choices and ideas and present them to management and planning teams internally to help you select an activity that is both a win-win for the area and brings your group together for a feel-good session. After all, giving always makes one feel better than receiving.
It has been shown that even small gestures of goodwill create a long-lasting sense of pride and accomplishment, it fosters relationships and gives everyone a feeling of purpose. Doing something together for others, as a group, elicits a great flow of joy and happiness and energy between those collectively giving from the heart.
